Assessing Your Weight

A high amount of body fat can lead to weight-related diseases and other health issues and being underweight can also put one at risk for health issues. BMI and waist circumference are two measures that can be used as screening tools to estimate weight status in relation to potential disease risk. However, BMI and waist circumference are not diagnostic tools for disease risks. A trained healthcare provider should perform other health assessments in order to evaluate disease risk and diagnose disease status.

THE FAILURE OF TRADITIONAL (ALLOPATHIC) THERAPY

The three approved methods of cancer treatment in the U.S are currently surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. And, in a typical hospital environment, these are all that exist as far as you are concerned. (Like I said in the last lesson, a medical practitioner could lose his license should he recommend any "unapproved" alternative therapy to the patient).

However, there are better, safer and more effective protocols to apply, if you truly want to rid, or prevent yourself from getting cancer. I am not telling you to forego traditional therapy, but, taking a quote directly from Robert, "... These are what I will do if I had cancer."

Blood donation boosts health status- experts

Coordinator of National Blood Transfusion Services (NBTS), Abuja Centre, Dr Omo Izedonmwen, has advised Nigerians to imbibe the culture of regular blood donation as a way of boosting their health status.
Izedonmwen gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Abuja.
“Some have come to donate blood and discovered that they were not even healthy enough to donate; some donors may even have high blood pressure or other transmissible diseases.
“No harm can come from donating blood; you gain more when you donate blood, as it is an avenue for replenishing your body.
“Donating blood can save the lives of thousands of Nigerians desperately in need of safe blood,” he said.
Izedonmwen, however, urged Nigerians to take important decision of becoming voluntary non-remunerated blood donors.
He advised Nigerians to take blood donation seriously, as its benefit outweighs its disadvantages.
He said the decision to become a blood donor means that one was committed to participating in a vital community services.
He also said the organisation has various measures to protect the health and well-being of both blood donors and recipients, adding that the blood is the safest in the country.
“Common reasons given by people who don’t donate blood are that, `they have never thought about it, they don’t like needles.’ It is time to start thinking about it today, or muster up the courage to overcome your fear of needles, as giving blood doesn’t only help others but it helps you too,’’ Izedonmwen said.
He said the majority of transfusions were given to women with haemorrhage, children with severe anaemia, accident victims, surgical and cancer patients.

THE STROKE THAT SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN: The story of Ada's mom

The story of Ada's mom

Ada’s mother, a widow, had extremely high blood pressure. Her physician prescribed one of the newer medications, which did reduce Ada’s mom’s hypertension, but it was expensive.

The prescription was written for 30 tablets, with the directions to take one a day. Ada's mother lived on a very limited income. The cost of the medication meant that she often had to choose between buying food and filling her prescription.

She did not tellher physician, or her pharmacist that she could not afford this medication. To save money, Ada’s mom began taking her medicine every other day. Later it became every third day. When she wasn’t taking a pill every day, no one said anything. As a matter of fact, no one appeared to notice at all.

A few months after she began reducing the dosage of her medication for high blood pressure, Ada's mom had a stroke. It was relatively minor, but she was hospitalized for several days.

BIRTH CONTROL METHODS FOR NIGERIAN WOMEN

The main problems that prevent access to and use of birth control are unavailability, poor health care services, spousal disapproval, religious concerns, and misinformation about the effects of birth control.

Often times I have had to address the concerns most women have about the side effects of different birth control methods and most Nigerian women will prefer using the Emergency Contraceptive method(morning after pills). In a family planning unit in any hospital the nurses will take the medical history of the patient , questions about the number of sexual partners, number of children, if the woman had aborted before, if she smokes, if she had done caesarean surgery and the date of last menstrual period. These questions are necessary to advise the woman about the best method to use.

SPANKING CAN HARM YOUR CHILD'S MENTAL HEALTH

Agreed that a verse of the Bible says, “Spare the rod and spoil the child”. And it will be wrong to disobey instructions from above. However, the Holy Book does not say you should use the rod to harm the child.
Many parents, caregivers and guardians use the rod to harm children in an attempt to ‘discipline’ them. Such incidents bring up the moral and logical question on the role of the rod in parenting.

EXERCISE FOR YOUR VAGINA

It’s worshipped in some cultures, taboo in others, but ultimately, the vagina is an amazingly versatile muscular tube with a variety of functions: birth canal, outflow track for menstrual blood, in-flow track for sperm (this list is in random order). Childbirth, gravity, menopause, smoking and obesity can all wreak havoc on the vagina and, over time, can weaken the muscles of the pelvic floor (a hammock of muscles that connect from your back to your lower abs).
Here are a few signs that your pelvic floor and vaginal muscles may be weak:

WHY DOES MY VAGINA SMELL?

Solutions for Red eyes

Your eyes are often considered to be a window into your soul,so it's understandable that you don't want them to be red and sour.Eye redness can happen when the blood vessels on the surface of your eye expand and dilate. This can happen when a foreign object or substance has gotten into your eye or when infection has formed.

Eye redness is usually temporary and clears up quickly. Here are some things you can do to make the process easier.

Short-term solutions for red eyes

The right remedy for your red eyes depends on the specific cause.Generally, one or more of the following will ease the discomfort of most cases of red eyes.
 Warm compress
Soak a towel in warm water and wring it out.The area around the eyes is sensitive so keep the temperature at a reasonable level. Place the towel on your eyes for about ten minutes. The heat can increase blood flow to the area. It can also increase oil production on your eyelids. This allows your eyes to create more lubrication.

Cool Compress
If a warm compress isn't working, you can take the opposite approach. A towel soaked in cool water and wrung out may also provide short term relief for red eye symptoms. It can relieve any swelling and reduce any itchiness from irritation. Be sure to avoid any extremes of  temperature in the area around your eyes, or you may make the problem worse.

Artificial tears
Tears lubricate your eyes and keep them clean. Short term or long term dryness might call for over -the- counter artificial tears to keep your eyes healthy. If cool artificial tears are recommended, consider refrigerating the solution.

Long term solutions for red eyes

If you regularly experience red, irritated eyes, you may need to think beyond quick fixes. Here are a few lifestyle changes that may relieve your symptoms. You should also talk to your doctor if the problem persists.

Switch contacts
If you are experiencing chronic redness and you wear contact lenses, the problem may involve your eyewear. The materials found inside certain lenses can increase your likelihood for infection or irritation.if you have recently switched lenses-or you've had the same type of lenses for a while- and experience redness, talk to your eye doctor.

The contact solution that you use can also affect your eyes. Certain solution ingredients aren't as compatible with certain lens materials. Make sure you are using the best contact solution for your lenses.

Pay attention to your diet

If you are not staying hydrated, it can cause your eyes to be bloodshot. Generally, a person needs about 8 cups of water a day to maintain a proper fluid balance.
Eating an excessive amount of inflammatory foods may cause eye redness. Processed foods, dairy products, and fast foods can all cause inflammation if eaten in excess. Research has found that foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids can reduce inflammation. These are commonly found in fish such as salmon, seeds and nuts such as flaxseed. You can also take supplements containing omega-3s.

Be aware of your surroundings
Your environmet can also affect your eyes. If you are constantly surrounded by allergens, such as pollen or smoke, it may be the root of the problem. Dry air, humidity and wind can also have an effect.

Outlook

In most cases, the conditions that cause eye redness aren't serious and will clear without medical treatment. Home remedies such as compresses and artificial tears, can help relieve any symptoms you may be experiencing. If the symptoms persist or include pain or loss of vision, you should seek immediate medical care.
