DRY

The movie DRY directed by Stephanie Okereke focuses on VESICOVAGINAL FISTULA condition and underaged marriage among young women in the northern part of Nigeria.According to premium times Borno state has recorded 28 cases of VVF this year.

Vesicovaginal fistula is an abnormal opening extending between the bladder and the vaginal that allows the continuous involuntary discharge of urine into the vaginal vault. It is a major cause of morbidity and mortality which can result in marital disruption, rejection and eventual destitution.

CAUSES
It is often caused by childbirth, when a prolonged labour presses the unborn child, tightly against the pelvis, cutting off blood flow to the vesicovaginal wall. The affected tissue may die leaving a hole. In the Northern part of Nigeria where women have no healthcare nearby, vaginal fistulas are much more common.
Vaginal fistulas can also result from violent rape.

REPAIR

  • Transvaginally
  • Laparoscopically: more prevalent due to its greater visualization, higher success rate and lower rate of complication.
Stephanie Linus had this to say when the trailer of the movie Dry was released ' Nigerians! It's time to lend your thoughts. We need to protect the girl child from incessant abuse'
